Daggett Shuler Promotes Driving Safety

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (April 4, 2014) –  Now in its 24th year, Safe Sober Prom Night is in full swing in the greater Triad area of North Carolina spreading its message of positive peer pressure to teens at 41 local high schools in 9 counties.

As part of the Safe Sober Prom Night campaign, Daggett Shuler hosts a nationally known speaker program for a series of presentations at area high schools and civic organizations. This year Safe Sober Prom Night is pleased to bring back the Street Smart program for a week of presentations during the week of April 7th, 2014.

Street Smart is a group of firefighter paramedics that delivers a strong message of driving safety while being engaging and entertaining.  The Street Smart program takes the audience into the real-life drama experienced by firefighters/paramedics as they work to save the lives of individuals who have made poor decisions behind the wheel. Street Smart not only brings its program to high schools across the nation, the group has also presented for NFL football teams and for the U.S. Military.  Street Smart, like Safe Sober Prom Night, is now in its 24th year of encouraging students to be safe drivers.

Prom night is the deadliest night for teenagers.  Research from the insurance industry, The Partnership at Drugfree.org (formerly The Partnership for a Drug-Free America), and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) shows that 70 percent of high school juniors and seniors expect their peers to drink and drive on prom night.  In fact, about 4 in 10 of all traffic fatalities on prom and graduation weekends are alcohol-related.

Safe Sober Prom Night continues to grow through community support, and David Daggett is proud to make the program part of the firm culture at Daggett Shuler, Attorneys at Law.  “We truly believe that unless future generations turn out better than ours, both have failed.  So, each of us have an obligation to do our part in order to succeed,” says Daggett. “That obligation extends far beyond prom night. When you transform a life, you know you have made a lasting difference – it can’t get any better than that!

Safe Sober Prom Night has been using positive peer pressure to help high school students make smart choices for over 24 years. David Daggett, co-founder of the program, says he now meets students whose parents participated in Safe Sober Prom Night when he helped start it in 1991. Daggett Shuler is proud to be bringing the Safe Sober message to a whole new generation of teenagers. The Safe Sober Prom Night program, presented by Daggett Shuler Attorneys at Law, is believed to be the largest and longest running privately funded initiative of its type in the United States.
