Drunk Driver Causes Multi-Vehicle Pileup After Running Red Light

Police are reporting that a multi-car pileup that occurred in Johnston County, NC over the weekend was caused by a drunk driver that failed to stop at a red light. The selfish and reckless actions of this driver created a very dangerous situation for several other motorists.

A total of 6 people were taken to a local hospital from the scene, but thankfully, none of the injuries were described as life-threatening. One driver from Princeton, NC suffered a broken collar bone, while 5 other drivers were left with what police described as “minor injuries.”

Police say that the driver in question was travelling east on U.S Route 70 near Princeton on the morning of Saturday, January 17th when he ran a red light. The driver then hit another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction before colliding with two other cars. While police have not released the driver’s Blood Alcohol Content at the time of the crash, the man is facing several criminal charges including driving while intoxicated, driving with a revoked license, and running a red light.

At Daggett Shuler, North Carolina Personal Injury and Disability law firm, we pride ourselves on doing all we can to prevent drunk and impaired driving in our community. Our attorneys have seen the damage this irresponsible behavior can cause firsthand, which is why we are so committed to programs such as our Safe Sober Prom Night campaign.

Daggett Shuler organizes this campaign to spread awareness among local high school students about the dangers of drunk driving and doing drugs during prom. Safe Sober Prom Night encourages high school students throughout the Triad to abstain from drinking alcohol and drugs on prom and to be positive role models.

Daggett Shuler Law supports all measures aimed at preventing intoxicated drivers from getting behind the wheel here in North Carolina.

For this reason, we were excited to write about the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s “Booze It & Lose It” campaign. This program, aimed at cracking down on drunk drivers during the Holiday Season, entered its 20th year of operation in 2014 and has had an amazing impact on helping to lower overall instances of deaths and injuries related to drunk driving accidents.

In 2013 alone, the Booze It & Lose It campaign lead to 3,164 DWI arrests statewide in North Carolina, including 157 in Forsyth County.
