GM Recalls

GM Recalls Millions of Vehicles This Year

Today, consumer vehicles and commercial trucks are equipped with a variety of safety features to keep everyone as safe as possible behind the wheel. But what happens when your vehicle is manufactured with a defective part? When a car part malfunctions, it can lead to serious and deadly consequences.

There have been numerous defective products that have been installed in vehicles, which have lead to a massive product recall by the manufacturer. Unfortunately, some product recalls happen too late, and many people have already suffered from the manufacturers mistakes.  This year alone GM has notified consumers and car dealerships of 60 different recalls, which amount to roughly 29 million vehicles being affected.

Ignition Switch Recall is one of the Biggest Product Defect Cases for GM

One of the most serious recalls made over the last year was an ignition switch recall, which has already been linked to numerous injuries and deaths.

Over 1.6 million vehicles have been recalled due to a faulty ignition switch. For this particular recall, the ignition switch can easily slip out of position, instantly turning the vehicle off.

Some drivers, while operating their vehicles on the highway, have accidentally hit their keys, with their knee and tier vehicle has shut off. This slight, jarring movement could cause the defective ignition switch to fall out of place. Once this happens, the car will automatically turn off, and once the car is powered off, the airbags will no longer deploy. This could potentially cause a driver to be in a car accident, with no protection from airbags.

The following cars have been affected by the “defective ignition switch” recall:

    • 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt
    • 2007-2010 Pontiac G5
    • 2003-2007 Saturn Ion
    • 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR
    • 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice
    • 2007-2010 Saturn Sky

GM Front Seatbelt Recall

Additionally, GM recalled several SUV models due to a defective front seatbelt.  A seatbelt is your first line of defense, and many times can save your life, if in a car accident.  It is imperative that all seatbelts in a car function properly at all times.

Roughly 1.3 million crossover SUVs were recalled due to these faulty front seatbelts.  If there is an accident, the front seatbelts separate from the vehicle, leaving the driver and front passenger with little protection during an accident. As a result of the seriousness of this recall, GM has ordered all dealers to stop selling these models until all repairs have been made.

The following cars have been affected by the “front seatbelt” recall:

    • 2009-2014 Buick Enclave
    • 2009-2014 Chevrolet Traverse
    • 2009-2014 GMC Acadia
    • 2009-2014 Saturn Outlook
