Did you know it’s our laws and our legal system that makes the United States different and I believe better than any other country in the world?
I’m Attorney David Daggett. I recently heard a story on National Public Radio about a murder in the streets of downtown Moscow. Now, Moscow, Russia is now a very modern city. It has a lot of sophistication, high style, and it’s a very expensive place to live.
The first thing that went through my mind, when I heard about this murder was, was it due to drugs, gang activity, some other criminal activity? I was surprised to learn that this murder was due to a breakdown in a contract between two parties.
Since they do not have a legal system that is efficient and that can fairly address issues when they arise, the resulting activity is violence. They have engineers, they have scientists, and they have everything else that we have. What they don’t have is our laws, our legal system, and our system of justice to help regulate society. Our laws become the rules in the framework with which we operate in society and gives us a predictable way that we can handle disputes in a rational, civilized way.
