Volkswagen and Audi Made False Claims About the Fuel Efficiency of Millions of Vehicles

Volkswagen and Audi are at the center of a massive scandal that could potentially impact millions of vehicle owners in the United States. Earlier this month, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that Volkswagen equipped an estimated 11 million of their TDI “Clean Diesel” vehicles with software that was designed to deceive emissions tests.

Volkswagen marketed their TDI vehicles as eco-friendly and environmentally conscious, when in reality, the emissions produced by these vehicles grossly exceeded the legal limit. Many Americans fell victim to the company’s false advertising and are now left with vehicles that are actively harmful to the environment and have greatly decreased in value.

On Monday, September 28th, car manufacturer Audi, which is owned by Volkswagen, admitted that as many as 2.1 million Audi models worldwide were equipped with the same software that allowed VW TDI “Clean Diesel” vehicles to cheat on emissions tests for years.

Audi announced on Monday that affected models include:

  • Audi A1 model year 2009-2015
  • A3 model year 2009-2015
  • A4 model year 2009-2015
  • A5 model year 2009-2015
  • A6 model year 2009-2015
  • TT model year 2009-2015
  • Q3 model year 2009-2015
  • Q5 model year 2009-2015

Volkswagen models affected by this scandal include:

  • Jetta TDI model year 2009-2015
  • Golf TDI model year 2010-2015
  • Golf Sportwagen TDI model year 2009-2015
  • Beetle TDI model year 2013-2015
  • Passat TDI model year 2012-2015

The software in question programmed the engines of these Audi and Volkswagen vehicles to activate their “Pollution Control” mode only during emissions testing. Outside of these tests, the pollution control setting was shut off, allowing these supposedly “eco-friendly” vehicles to emit a higher rate of harmful chemicals into the atmosphere than other standard vehicle models.

If you or a family member purchased or leased any of the above vehicle models, you may be entitled to compensation for the diminished value of your property, as well as any out-of-pocket expenses that resulted from this scandal.
