David Daggett, Griff Shuler, and Police Chief Barry Rountree Announce the Daggett Shuler Back to School Backpack Program on Triad Today

As school districts gear up to begin the new school year, parents and children flock to stores to get all their required supplies. This is an exciting time for kids as they pick out their new backpacks, notebooks, pencils, etc., but this can also be a stressful time when funds are tight.

According to the USDA’s report on food insecurity, North Carolina’s food insecurity rate is #8 in the nation. Winston-Salem and Greensboro carrying the 4th and 5th spot for highest rates of food insecurity in US metropolitan areas. The fact is, many families in our community don’t know where their next meal is coming from and do not have income for basic necessities.

The attorneys at Daggett Shuler know that the beginning of school can be the most influential time in a child’s life. They are passionate about helping as many students as they can be prepared for the new school year.

The Daggett Shuler Back to School Backpack Program gives 250 free brand-new backpacks to kids in need at 5 local elementary schools. These backpacks are packed with the entire back to school list of supplies in order to give every student the best start at school. We want to help take the financial burden off of the families that need the most help.

This Friday the Winston-Salem Police Department will join the Daggett Shuler staff in stuffing the backpacks and getting ready for distribution. The backpacks will be given to the schools on Wednesday, August 23.
